Does anybody know where I can download a (preferably free) music software package which would allow me to send sound effects (air horns) to my mixer via usb...

The plugins for garageband are pretty crappy...

I've just downloaded mixxx which I am currently getting to grips with...

Edit. I'm retarded. This is the Apple forum so I should probably assume that you were talking about a Mac.

For free, Mixx is probably among the best. However, when I had my Macbook Pro I'd use djay. It was fantastic for this type of stuff, and you should probably check it out. Other than that though, free and music editting usually don't go hand in hand.

Not really an issue.. more like no idea how it works. Im a total newb to digital deejaying really, only ever been a vinyl kinda guy!

I have downloaded mixxx and it looks impressive. How would I set it up so I can record from vinyl to it, with my macbook connected up by USB?

And as for sending sound effects into the mixer.. I also have no clue how I would go about this!

Do you / have you ever used mixxx with a digital vinyl system? I see from the manual it's possible. Would I need one of those 4in / 4out adapter things to hook the turntables up to the computer??

well, I can record it through garageband usually - using the line in function.

Ideally I wanted a one stop shop for recording, DVS, and adding effects over the mix. So far I haven't worked it out yet!!!

I found a piece of software today called soundflower, which internally routes the output of one software to another...

Would this mean I wouldn't need to use a 2in 2out soundcard. Like Ive mentioned, I've never used DVS before - ever. never set it up never played with it but I like the idea and want to get into it without spending an absolute fortune. I know Mixxx can support DVS but how do I connect it all up? Do the decks need connecting, or just the mixer?

Don't quote me on it but I think MIXX will perform the same as Garageband. Try it, if it recognizes it, yay, if not, means I need to think harder.

Make sure to look through MIXX's input sources when you have it connected to make sure it's recognizing it as an input.

Virtual DJ has a great sound board plugin and you can add your own that you can download from royalty free sites.

I remember a demo filled with some good features a while back though

The amount of times I have downloaded and used VirtualDJ and I still never realised it was compatible with Mac's, otherwise I would of mentioned it in this thread.
