Yet another reason to hate Apple - Mitcho1989 - Feb-15-2010 11:14 AM

just found this out today, when i was trying to sort out a mates ipod.

with the 5th gen ipod nano (the one with the video camera), apple has changed how the database thing in it works, and have made things more complicated.

so guess what? if you own one, youre forced to use itunes to manage it. winamp and other programs, have no workaround for it. so youre screwed. which sucks, because winamp, a 10 MB download, can do heaps more with your ipod, and manage it better than apples own software, a 94 MB download, can.

f**k apple. once my ipod classic shits itself, im switching to something else.

Have you looked at any software ?
Sounds like they're scewing you. You know why though, they want you to use iTunes to get your money.

nope, had only tried winamp. wasnt my computer so i didnt wanna install a heap of software on it. but did a bit of searching on google and found out that apple f**ked it all up so only itunes can manage them.

theyll make up other reasons for doing it but in the end, youre right Ryan, theyre just after money. other problem is, the ipod updater is now integrated into itunes. when i got my first ipod, it used to be a separate program, which was better. so again, youre forced to use itunes.

i dont think i'll be updating the firmware on my ipod classic, because theyll probably do the same to it too, so that only itunes can manage it.

gotta say it again: F**K YOU APPLE!!!!

lol

SO YOU CAN USE IT AS A BOAT ANCHOR!!!

Scary part is I didn't even have to follow the link, I recognized the video number.

I have a device called a Dingoo - I consider it SO superior to anything the iPod can/could do because it's totally open. Sure it's limited to 8 gig sticks of SD - but it does it all. MP3 and Video playback are just the tip of the iceberg since you have Dingux, a linux port - AND it comes with a bunch of working emulators and you can download a slew more.

... and to be honest, I find the game gear color style control layout superior to that stupid 'wheel' thing. (which I find remarkably useless).

... and you can get a dingoo for around $90 from most any china reseller.

Oh, just don't get the black ones - they are NOT made by Shenzen but are OEM'ed by them through another company, and are total rubbish quality compared to the white ones. Also don't try to get one through DealExtreme - you'll wait three months and then have to cancel the order.

I personally have a Creative Zen V+. Small, easy to use and has ReplayGain support. Also I can just plug it in and pretty much any Software that supports audio device syncing can transfer music to it.

Oh and if you are unfortunate enough to have an iPod then the best thing you can do with it is http://www.rockbox.org/

iPod 1g through 5.5g, iPod Mini and iPod Nano 1g

rockbox dont work on mine lol. ipod classic 120 GB, i dont see rockbox coming to it for a while

RE: Yet another reason to hate Apple - carbonize - Feb-22-2010 12:04 PM

Doesn't it? Wouldn't that come under iPod 1g ?

RE: Yet another reason to hate Apple - Mitcho1989 - Feb-25-2010 05:00 AM

not as far as i know. the most recent ipod it seems to support is the ipod video (60 - 80 GB) thats generations before the one i have.
