RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
The only product I own from Apple is an iPod Touch when they were first released - After reading that article I don't think I will be rushing to purchase anything from them again; if ever. The last one seems to be the weirdest though, my iPod and iTunes have been requesting to update for the past 2 month or so and I'm glad I didn't press the dreaded 'UPDATE' button now. Who knows what will be installed on my computer.
Anyway, I'm a proud Microsoft user and always will be! ![]() www.myperfecthost.net | Coming soon - Your new affordable, unmanaged VPS service. |

RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
Meh, won't stop me buying Apple, cause well...the iPod is the best in it's class. The iPhone is highly nifty and the Macbook is a fully usable computer. Don't care about their business practices so long as I can use the product.

RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
So because i happen to be running Windows on my PC and think that Apple's practices suck does that make me a "Microsoft fanboy with an anti-Apple bias" ?
How the hell is the iPod the best in it's class? Give me device that uses an open protocol for the transferring and storing of files so that I can plug it in to ANY computer running ANY OS and be able to sync music with it. As to the iPhone I'd sooner have a smart phone that lets me put ANY apps I want on it without having to resort to cracking the software. What was the bigg selling point Apple used in their adverts for the iPhone? "This is not a watered down version of the internet"? Yeah well trading standards here in the UK proved them wrong on that one then banned the adverts. C a r b o n i z e "Do or do not... there is no try." - Master Yoda |

RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
Quote:Go lick Steve Jobs arse. Huh, why would I do that since all my computers are PCs running Windows and I have no desire to use a Mac cause their interface is not something I'd find usable in a business situation. I am not a supporter or hater of either company, I just buy the products that best suit my needs. Quote:So because i happen to be running Windows on my PC and think that Apple's practices suck does that make me a "Microsoft fanboy with an anti-Apple bias" ? No, because you provide a somewhat intelligent argument unlike people who just randomly swear and tell me to engage in sexual acts with a CEO when I am way out of his league. The iPod is successful in the same way Microsoft Windows is successful - Apple provide a product that is very easy to use, with powerful branding and has become something people are accustomed to. Like Microsoft, Apple's business practices are shady at best, but they still make great, or at least usable, products that people are willing to pay for. |

RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
ok fine, i'll give a more intelligent argument than "f**k apple"
i dont agree with their practices, because: 1 - it indirectly led to an employee of a company working with apple committing suicide; 2 - i believe if we buy a phone, we should be able to install what WE think should be on it, not what THEY think, and not have to resort to workarounds and risking bricking the device, to get other apps on it; 3 - theres no reason we cant use itunes to manage devices other than ipods/iphones (and theres no reason for them to start changing their devices so much that other apps such as winamp, cant manage them); 4 - apple takes pretty much all the profit from selling their devices, and retailers barely make any out of it, even though they sell for ridiculous prices compared to rival products. 5 - products that compete with the iphones functionality should be encouraged, instead of not being allowed to be installed - this would make the iphone better for everyone; thats 5 i can think off the top of my head for now. i disagree with steve jobs' comments about adobe flash, when he was asked about why its not allowed on the ipad. its not buggy on my computer, doesnt hog my cpu and doesnt cause my computer to crash. but then again, my computer runs windows my phone runs the symbian s60 OS, and its great because i can run multiple apps at once, i can install whatever i want onto it, including software that replaces functionality, my phone can actually send files to other phones, and importantly for me (as i live out of town), it has far superior coverage than the iphone. dredgy, i can understand why you think my first response was unintelligent lol, im open to comments. hopefully this one is a little bit better. |

RE: 5 Reasons To be Scared Of Apple
and one more:
i dont see how apple has the right to make it pretty much illegal to install mac OS on any computer other than their own ones. especially when theyre promoting the fact that their computers can run windows too, and make software to make it easy to do so. if theyre going to give people reasons to install windows on their mac, we should be able to install the mac OS on PCs without resorting to hacking to do so. from apples perspective, if they allowed it to happen, it could increase sales even more. its probably fair enough to say apples own dedicated hardware would run mac OS better, because its built specifically for it. some windows users may want to have a mac OS install. if they do, they have to buy a whole new computer, which would turn most people off. i'd rather pay the AU$240 for the OS, install it on my PC, and if it goes great, THEN consider buying a full on apple computer. i could be wrong but hey thats the way i see it |
