RE: The iPad Notebook
z4root is the only simple option for your everday user. My dad jailbroke his iPhone only because you download an application and it does ALL of the work automatically. Including adding Cydia which houses every jailbreak only app instead of delving into searching.

Current Android tablets do not run Froyo at best... the XOOM and Gtab 10 runs Honeycomb along with about 4 other devices coming out that run on similar chipsets - none of which I can see outperforming the A5. Froyo is well phased out as a tablet OS therefore, not current.

Current tablets do run Froyo at best. Xoom and Gtab are the only ones running Honeycomb right now the rest are all coming soon. As I said earlier we can take the Xoom as being the first official Android tablet and so the first step on the ladder.

I had a one click batch file for rooting my LG and at least with Android you can use custom firmwares with a very very active community making them.

RE: The iPad Notebook
Well I guess I'll just say both of us our right. Hopefully you see what I'm saying and I definitely see what you're saying.

And as I say again, I'm not knocking Android at all. I love Android. If Android were a girl I'd consider marrying it because she understands what I want and always delivers (though I don't like how many guys use her Confused). iOS is undoubtedly more "closed" than Android but I was trying to show you the benefits and current status of tablets. As of now, if I had to buy a tablet TODAY I'd buy an iPad 2. If I could wait a year, there are too many Android tablets coming out and undoubtedly they'll be better (and Honeycomb will have grown).

So, for a final outline:

iOS is bigger and more established and has more apps. The hardware is currently superior to Android tablets.

Android is open and is easier to customize. The system itself is more powerful but the hardware hasn't caught up yet.

^ Yeah give it a year and the XOOM will become junk. Android is amazing software but (damn you open source) there's too much unorganized updates with the software since every company has a different Android phone. It's been a couple of months and I'm still waiting for 2.2 from my phone provider.

Except Xoom is running Honeycomb which is not open source at this time.

But yeah some phone manufacturers are slow at releasing updates which is why phones that run plain Android are best as you can update as soon as a new Android is out.

RE: The iPad Notebook
Yep Honeycomb is locked down right now.

I hope Google figures out that we hate manufacturer skins for Android and commonly just change it anyway (LauncherPro has over 250k downloads, same with ADW, etc). Motorola took way too long to push Gingerbread to it's bread and butter device, the DX, and it still isn't here (I downloaded the leak). If it's only Google regulating it, we'll have our phones faster.

The only company who actually does a somewhat good job with a custom ROM is HTC and their Sense, but even then, I'd rather have plain ol' Android with a Sense download (I'd pay 1.99 for it, and I'm sure they'd make money that way anyway).

RE: The iPad Notebook
The iPad is good, but I can't justify spending the amount of money that they ask, on one. I have no interest in a tablet at the moment, but if things change, I'd get an Android tablet regardless; give it time and they'll be superior to the iPad, even if Apple does have all its mindless fanboys backing them.

RE: The iPad Notebook
In cost iPad is less than all current Honeycomb tablets. Will that stay the same, absolutely not.

I still say that the only reason the iPad is winning is because it's processor wipes the floor with the others.
