Why Android is Better than iOS
I own an Android Huawei Ascend and an Jailbroken iPod Touch (2G). I've had my iPod Touch for two years, and have used it to make calls with the headphones that have a microphone, listened to music, basically customized it into awesomeness. With Android, I've done that in a day, as apposed to my iPod, which took over a month finding the right resources out there. (Yes, through Cydia.) This is just my opinion, on this, if you have any objections, feel free to post and I'll try to respond to it.
So I'll just get to the main points. Open Source I love Android because it's open source, allowing your apps to do so much more. When I want to open another app through the voice option I can simply do so by saying "open Blah Blah" or if I want to go into it's files and add some songs, I don't have to install software onto your PC. (It is optional though.) Customizations I'm not one of the thousands convinced by Apple that it was alright to use a product designed by them and visually controlled by them in every way. I enjoy customizing my phone so that whenever I come to unlock it, it just says "Hello" to me. Cloud The most important thing to my life, is the cloud. I already have all my contacts stored in there, my calendar -- everything, and it's in one useful place. MobileMe is nice, I guess, but Google is free. Multi-tasking Android and iOS both have multi-tasking, however, developers need to make their apps compatible with the multi-tasking. Which itself is basically useless because iOS just freezes applications in the background (Source) and get this: you can't use it on anything below a third generation iPod. People have been using it on 2G iPods but you require a jailbreak, which for some people is too much work. As for Android, it does it automatically for you. And don't worry, there are Task Manager apps provided to kill or block apps from ever appearing in the background. If you need extra memory for an app you are opening, Android will simply close some other process, automatically. Also, if you use Skype, push notifications can be delayed. With iOS, you have to have it backgrounding to receive calls in-time without delays. Search The search on the Android software is simply amazing, I mean come on, it's made by Google. With a simple tap of a button and waiting for the "ok" signal from your phone to talk, you can look up anything you'd like. For example, puppies. Just a press of a button and there you go. Vlingo Virtual Assistant is a terrible application on the App Store, just bad. However when I found it on the Android Marketplace, I fell in love right away. It has so many features that aren't limited by iOS. It has a mode for when you're in a car which voices to you text messages, email, and what you want to say. You just say "hey Vlingo!" and wait for a beep, after that, you just say "call mom" or "email mom message Hello" or even "text mom message hi". (Of course this is something I won't be using anytime soon because I don't have a license but just worth mentioning.) Flash Player Yeah, I know, flash player. It's something iOS users have been wanting but Apple decides it's "not needed" just like a camera on the iPod Touch 2G but here it is on the latest version.. Android is open source, so hey, why not? You do have to recognize the limitations on phones and junk, so games won't be so hot to play sometimes, but flash video is something I'd use -- alot. I can visit my favorite Newgrounds.com to see the featured videos and have a good laugh. Oh yeah, Adobe Flash Released and Adobe Flash on Android Marketplace. ---------------- Android isn't perfect and I have to agree that it fails in several areas but overall a good product, something I'll keep using. Thoughts? |

RE: Why Android is Better than iOS
I prefer android over apple for the reason that its open-source, that means that the majority of the apps are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps, and do things are even only barely available on a jail broken iphone

I now own the Evo 4G and life couldn't be any better. I am running MIUI with the Tiamat kernel.

I like Miui and had it on my LG 2X but the battery life was terrible so had to go back to CM7.

As of now, the developer who ported things for the Evo 4G has been consumed by work and I don't know what's going to happen to the team over there. Trying to wait for a stable version of MIUI 4.0 ICS :3 |

Back then, phones would normally last longer than the contract, but now it's less than a year. I have never lost a phone out of mistake, (I only smashed my Huawei Ascend into the ground and proceeded to stomp on it with my foot) but all my friends seem to get a new iPhone every freakin' month 'cuz they can't seem to stop getting the screen cracked or dropping them in the toilet. Now that ICS has been released, Android definitely poops on iOS. Heck, the only thing that iPhone has that Android doesn't, is looks. That is why I am using MIUI right now. I actually own an iPod Touch (2G?) that is practically useless and collecting dust. How much did I pay for it? $250, seriously. There are 2 more generation of iPods that make mine completely obsolete and worth less than $50 on a good day! All the features Jobs said were useless on the iPods are now in the latest generation. Heck, most of the game I'd like to play won't even run on my iPod. |

I prefer Android because of open source and multitasking features. Good indeed.
