Google's Crap Versioning System
I just looked on FileHippo and it is showing that Google Chrome now has a beta of Chrome 5 out. Now am I the only one who thinks that the major version number should only change when there has been a major change in the product? What was the big change between 1 and 2 or between 2 and 3? I mean 4 introduced themes and extensions so that is a major update.
So what's new in version 5 that wasn't in 4? * [r37023] Use default downloads directory on Vista and Windows 7 (except where it is the desktop) (Issue: 13610) * [r36938 and others] Start work on Content Settings window and sub-dialogs (Issue: 32719) * [r37939] Do not select a word by right-click on an editable field in a web page (Issue: 8841) * [r37411] (Extensions) Adds a new experimental processes module to the extensions API. (Issue: 32303) * Integrated page level language translation. * Added new privacy management tools, under "Options->Under the Hood->Content settings..." which all for better management of images, JavaScript, plugins, and popups. RE: Google's Crap Versioning System
Someone suggested on another forums that Google is numbering chrome like that so their version numbers can catch up to Opera and IE.
But yeah, I fully expect we'll see Chrome 10 by 2012. Be fun in 2020 when we're on chrome 72. It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world - because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past. - Citizen G'Kar |

Maybe they think that if the version number is higher laymen will feel it is an older product than it really is and therefore more mature. I mean come on, they have taken out full page ads in newspapers to advertise Chrome. C a r b o n i z e Free ebook links (fiction) |

RE: Google's Crap Versioning System
ive heard about this, and it is something to do with Google more or less wanting to catch up to Opera 10, IE 8 etc.
but i agree, its all crap. version 4 should really only be version 2, the actual versions 2 and 3 were nothing major at all, and a version 5 beta just after the version 4 stable came out is BS to me. |
