How Can I stop Forum Spam registration

How can one prevent spammers from signing up selling things? I'm talking about the more robotic ones trying to promote phones and such. How do you do it?

1) don't use a forum software that is so easily tricked by a remote form submission... Ooop, too late.

2) start researching spammers IP addresses and if it appears to be a server block, ban the whole block.

3) Forum software is a script - sooner or later they WILL get in, it's a fact of running a forum software. As I said in another post here an active moderation team with maintaining an archive of offensive posts (and NOT deleting the spammer user accounts) is the only TRUE method of keeping a forum 'clean'.

You will never stop it completely and still have normal users able to get in - that's just the nature of the beast. Captcha's, form verifications - they're all like door locks on a car, they keep the honest people out, to a hardened car thief it's not even going to slow them down...

Cheers for reply. We've got a strong moderation team here and No spam gets past us, we were just looking of ways to stop it before there is something to delete.

There is most likely a MyBB Plugin out there for it.

The main one would be banning IPs.

Have you tried reCaptcha?

Also, ban IP ranges, such as China.
