iPAD vs NETBOOK
I'm considering getting a netbook for light typing work up, but to be honest they're far too fiddly. Can anyone recommend me a sleek one that isn't clunky. The Macbook is brilliant because it's touch pad and no button is so easy to use, so I'm looking at the iPad, which won't do any typing up but great for web.

I do have another question, how can you portably get online on the netbook using 3g? I need some more info.

And will Word or something be out for the iPad ? Does it have a USB ? Cheers

My advice, avoid the iPad like the plague unless you're more interested in eye candy than serious power. As to the mac book ask yourself if it's worth the extra money.

Alright first of all, you can view the iPad features and information at http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/

Second - to get 3G on a netbook and / or laptop you would need a 3G wireless dongle for example:

I have one and it works great! Smile

As for Word - you can probably buy an app, like you can for the iPod touch and iPhone.

Hope that helps and answers your questions, although it was very brief to what i could have made it Tongue.

RE: iPAD vs NETBOOK
The iPod Maxo (what I'm calling the iPad now) is a **** toy. You're stuck with crappy phone applications, cannot multitask, and in general it misses the point. Compared to a netbook, you might as well be comparing a Pentium 4 desktop to a "speak and spell".

I have NO idea what you mean by "clunky" when it comes to netbooks though - but I will say avoid all the first generation ones with the 9" or smaller displays. 800x480 sucks, and you'll want at LEAST the 1024x600 models to do anything useful. The 10"/larger screens also up the size enough that the keyboard spacing is nowhere near as bad as previous models.

Also, avoid the ones with the crap chicklet keyboards. Apple's reality distortion field might be able to dupe the gullible into thinking it's a viable design - use your brain and realize that they sucked on the Sincliar Spectrum, sucked on the original Trash-80 Coco, sucked on the PC Junior, and suck on apple's allegedly 'brilliant' pile of crap keyboard JUST AS BAD. As such the HP mini's with those keyboards - they suck too.

Me, I like my MSI Wind U123... The U130 is a great unit. I don't trust the Acer's because of the hinge design, or gateway's offerings.

Really if I was looking it would be a toss up between a MSI Wind U130 or a Asus Eee PC 1001... both coming in under a $300 USD... vs the iPad's what? $500 and you don't even get a **** keyboard?

Really...

Asus or MSI Netbook
Under $300
Atom 1.6ghz Processor
1 gig of RAM, expandable to two
160 gig hard drive
1024x600 display.
Keyboard with Trackpad
Can add third party touchscreen for $60 if handy with a screwdriver.

iPad
Starts at $499
1ghz ARM type processor, hard specs a joke, no java support and hardware java accelleration intentionally disabled.
1024x768 display
16 gig flash drive, add $200 to go to 64 gigs - NOT designed for a standard module so you cannot swap them yourself (rumored it might be hard soldered to the damned board - which would be consistent for apple design)
no keyboard
touchscreen included

But then I could give a flying **** about art *** form factor and am more concerned about functionality - and the iPad has none.

But then the iPhone/iPod touch doesn't exactly blow my skirt up either - but I'm not a phone junkie and don't have or want a cellular plan as for me, it just can't be that important it can't wait.

Me, I'd rather have the desktop processor with the desktop OS so I can run REAL applications, not the goofy crap off the iStore.

Netbook. For heavy processing etc, you want a laptop with a lot more grunt.

Netbook is good for web processing and word.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking about the Toshiba NB200 lower model or the Toshiba L500 LD2. Or does that deserve a new thread?
