ive heard it is. takes some work but ive read that it can be done.
try this site: http://sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/ might not be the exact mac you have, but as far as i know the steps are similar |

I recommend you get a Virtual Machine, that way you don't have to restart your computer each time you want to open Linux or Ubuntu.. but that's justa recommendation.

Both OS X and Linux run the Unix kernel, really no point in switching over.

Look into YellowDog Linux. Dunno if they are still a player but back in the powerPC days they were the kings of Linux on Mac.
