RE: What Security Products do you use? [Discussion]
Avira Na'Toth... uhm, I mean Antivir
... and not being a dumbass - that means No warez, no pronz, and not being DUMB ENOUGH to browse with IE or use Outlook for mail, or to magically think that somehow 'open source' might be more secure (it generally isn't)... Which also means no FF plugins since they have more secunia advisories than the browser itself does. But then increasingly 'viruses' are not a matter of security holes in the OS so much as a case of PEBKAC... It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world - because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past. - Citizen G'Kar |

Also use ESET NOD32. (I even heard Microsoft employees use this, but can't confirm).
That is all. Between this and the firewall on my router, I seldom have problems. I do regularly use IE, which is just fine if staying on the right websites. Maarten Van Ruitenburg Quick and Custom | Visual Developments | Dreamweaver Lessons |

ESET NOD32, because it's more than likely the best out there - It runs in the background and doesn't slow down my PC on startup, and never had a virus yet while running it. I also use Spybot Search & Destroy as it's another great program.
When you buy a new laptop or PC and Norton is always installed, it should be replaced by NOD32. When I started my job, I took over from a past Network Admin who swore by Norton - What a pain it was to remove... It planted itself nearly everywhere. |

I use AVG Internet Security (Paid for). I used to use the free version and was so impressed by it that I purchased the full version immediately. Certainly better than McAffee and Norton. Although NOD32 is also a good choice.

The first layer of defense is a Netgear hardware firewall sitting at the front of the network. It does stateful packet inspection, NAT, and does not reply to outside request. Port probes are found no open ports.
Automatic windows updates install everynight at 3:00 am. Free AVG anti-virus The latest version of Firefox If, by shear luck that malware gets in, I use malwarebytes to scan for pest. survival gear | team fortress |

I use AVG Free one my desktop then on my laptop I use Kaspersky Windows 7 RC. Which I have like 50 days left? Both work great. Never had a problem with neither of them.
