I have been using the release version for only a couple days now, but so far I have to agree - better than the RC.

Well, you probably got lucky with the magical combination of hardware that didn't have issues or don't use the software that caused problems - it happens. Both ME and 2K were similarly plagued, when they worked they were great - but when they didn't work, it sent you screaming back to Windows 98. 2k was pretty much rescued by it's second service pack - though by then XP was in the pipe so nobody cared. ME never really got such relief.

The XP/2k relationship is a lot like Vista/Win7. People complained that XP was just a faster 2K with a slap of paint, other people complained it was bloated by comparison (the difference being XP was faster if you had more than 256 megs of RAM - sound familiar?). The people who had problems with 2K had less problems with XP because the two used the same driver model - when 2k was introduced nobody was writing drivers for it, by the time of XP it had 2 years worth of 2k drivers to draw upon. See Win7, which uses the same WDDM stack as Vista and is mostly driver compatible... It's not going to see the driver dearth Vista had in it's first year thanks to the three years of Vista in the mainstream.

It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world - because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past. - Citizen G'Kar

How long will it take before a release is made without all the bugs?

Apple products don't have bugs! That thing in Snow Leopard that randomly deletes all of a user's data? That's a security feature. It prevents hackers from stealing all your files.
